A few favorites that are worthwhile a visit: The Vasa Museum – The world’s only 17th century ship featuring the warship Vasa, which sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 and has been restored to her original glory. National Museum – Exceptional collection of Scandinavian 19th century paintings, famous Rembrandt collection, historical crafts, and contemporary design. For more information, visit National Museum. Nordiska Museet – An unique museum with historical Swedish cultural heritage as well as contemporary design and fashion. Located on the island of Royal Djurgården in a magnificent turn-of-the-century palace and is often mistaken for the Royal Palace. For more information, visit Nordiska Museet. Junibacken – A fun activity for the young ones. Features all the beloved characters from Astrid Lindgren’s fairytale world, located on the island of Royal Djurgården. For more information, visit Junibacken. Recommended museums for the younger ones are: Junibacken, the Butterfly House, the Aquaria Water Museum, Tom Tits Experiment, and the Vasa Museum. In addition, the House of Culture (Kulturhuset) at Sergels Torg in the city center and Moderna Museet are cultural centers that cater specifically for children with libraries, theatres, exhibits, workshops, and playgrounds. |
